Feng Shui

Feng Shui dates back thousands of years to the Tang Dynasty. This ancient Chinese belief and practice was founded by Master Yang Yun Sang who focused on the shape of mountains and the flow or water. The study of Feng Shui is associated with astrology beliefs and the lunar calendar of the Chinese people.

Everything is made up of “Chi” or energy that exists in our environment. Your environment can generate positive or negative energy depending on the elements and direction of your environment. This ancient art and science is highly respected by Chinese business owners and Masters of Feng Shui are often consulted when designing a layout for a business. Likewise, Masters of Feng Shui are consulted when designing or building a home. The awareness gained by this ancient Chinese practice has been proven to be successful. Many prominent hotels and businesses consult with Masters of Feng Shui to advise them about their design and layouts so that their level of success is greatly improved and their clients experience that same flow of energy within their environments. The ultimate goal of Feng Shui is to allow Chi to circulate which will improve the lives, health, relationships and wealth of those that implement it.

The term “Feng Shui” translates as the two elements-wind and water. Wind represents your spiritual self and these inner feelings are what manifest in your life. Water represents your material self which you can control to reduce barriers to happiness and harmony in your life. These two elements of wind and water are intertwined in the practice of Feng Shui. Your inner and outer selves affect your success in life because when properly aligned, you experience more positive energy both in your material environment and your spiritual core. Small changes have real impacts and you can experience real harmony from applying simple changes from the practice of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui as a practice embodies your intention for your life. A clean, controlled, serene environment evokes a sense calm, focus and energy. An environment of clutter, disarray and incongruous furnishings evokes a sense of chaos, frustration and lack of energy. Your intention feeds a reciprocal relationship allowing Chi to flow.

Let’s look at how you can adopt Feng Shui into your life:

  • Clear out clutter from your home and the clutter will be removed from your life. Clutter stops vital energy flows.
  • Bring in the natural light and fresh air. These create good Chi.
  • Do energy map of “Bagua” of your environment. This will help you identify what areas of your environment are connected to specific areas of your life and allow you to improve those aspects of your environment.
  • Incorporate Feng Shui elements in your environment by placing them in the corresponding location(s) that influence an area of your life you intend to change. Each direction corresponds to a life area: North-career & path in life; Northeast-spiritual growth & self-cultivation; East-health & family; Southeast-money & abundance; South-reputation; Southwest-love & marriage; and West-creativity & children.
  • Identify your Feng Shui Birth Element and introduce it in your environment. These are based upon your birthdate within the Chinese New Year calendar and are either wood, metal, water, fire or earth. There are corresponding colors to each of these elements that you can incorporate as representation of your particular element.
  • Identify your Kua number which reveals what direction you should place your furnishings or face so that you receive and emit the strongest energy. The formula for identifying this number is to look at the last two digits of your birth year (ex. 1961); add them together (ex. answer=7); add 5 to this number if you are female or subtract this number from 10 if you are male. If any of these steps result in a two-digit answer, then add those two digits together to arrive at the single digit answer you need. In this example, the answer would be 3 if female (ex. 12 will be 1+2 = 3) or 3 if male (ex. 10-7=3). You are either a member of the East (1,3,4,9) or West (2,5,6,7,8) and by arranging your furnishings accordingly, you will immediately feel your energy levels change.
