Mars-Uranus conjunctions and the Warsaw Stock Exchange performance Copyright©2005 Wojtek Suchomski
A person born during conjunction of Mars with Uranus is independent, impatient and tends to risk. At the time these planets meet together the energy becomes so high that it keeps a person excited for the rest of their life. Famous people born during this aspect are: Arnold Schwarzenneger, Martina Hingis and Johny Depp. Mars conjuncts Uranus every two years at average and their combined influence is rather infamous among astrologers. This very aspect shined above when Soviet Union had been formed (1922) and also twenty years later when Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered a nuclear attack (1945). The latest conjunction of 2005 formed exactly at the same time as the blood-shed rebellion in Uzbekistan happen. This time we will try to cover up a bad impression of this aspect. The article describes correlation of Mars and Uranus conjunction with the Warsaw Stock Exchange index performance. Warsaw Stock Exchange is a central Polish market of equities, bonds and futures contracts. Its total capitalisation is 70 bln euro and an average session turnover is 250 mln euro. Because the domestic financial sector hold a modest capital the trade is dominated by foreign investment funds. They find it easy to change our shallow market with their big money and to determine a bull or bear market. As you can see below in the last six years the Warsaw market rose 80% then dropped 60% of its value and afterwards rallied again over 150%. A real financial Eldorado for brave investors!
Foreign investors pay a special attention to WIG20 which is a price index encompassing of the largest and most-traded companies on the main market. For the first time index of the Polish blue-chip companies was calculated on 18 April 1994 and since that day conjunction of Mars and Uranus has formed six times. Every time, six times in the row this aspect appeared just few days before a sudden but short-time bull market (graphs at the bottom of the article): I am aware that only six examples from the last 11 years may be not enough to build up the theory, therefore compared conjunctions of Mars and Uranus with the Dow Jones performance in the last 50 years. All the markets follow the NYSE and Warsaw Exchange does so. I have found out that since the end of the Second World War there were 76% of Mars-Uranus conjunctions that heralded a rally in America. Only occasionally the index fell down afterwards or remained flat, but we must remember that along Mars and Uranus aspect the market had been influenced by eight other planets making aspects each other. The general issue is that the Mars-Uranus conjunction effect on the market is like a signal flare: it is flashy, burns out quickly and is just a call to attack. I really want to present this discovery as a subject for further research, not just some kind of "proof" that financial astrology works. A single aspect is only one of factors that could be considered when making investment decision. Planetary energies always mix together but some of them are more important while the others are irrelevant. For example many astrologers claim that bearish market comes along with retrograde planets, especially Mercury and Mars. My observation doesn't confirm that, at least regarding the equity market in Poland. Sometimes WIG20 index was falling but the other time it was rising even during the retrogradation of both Mercury and Mars. We can carefully say that this factor could downgrade a market, if there are no aspects that may increase investors' optimism. However looking back in the past we can't definitely say that a bear market was always accompanied by Mars or Mercury retrogradations. If there are a couple of planetary aspects at the same time, we need to recognize which of them support a bull market and which support the bear. Equity market swings depend on the investors' mood, so if we can predict that one day they would be more risky, that means we know a lot. What could be easily observed is the fact that many of planetary conjunctions determined major changes on the Polish equity market. This correlation is so strong that needs a more detailed description in a separate article. In my opinion it is quite easy to begin a speculation bubble on the Warsaw Stock Exchange with just 200 mln of euro and, of course, if you know the planetary aspects coming up. ;-) Below there are charts of WIG20 index with a Mars-Uranus conjunction marked in red. What you will see is that every time equity prices gained significantly soon after that day. Were the investors given a signal to buy? See it for yourself: 8 January 1996

Now we have to wait a bit for the next conjunction of Mars and Uranus when these two planets meet again on 29 April 2007. Best of luck with your trading then. Wojtek Suchomski |
