The mundane cycles and their fast analogues in business-astrology

By Vladimir Gorbatcevich©

The business astrology has been established as a separate branch of the astrology not so long ago.

However, it has already discovered its own specific methodologies of research. We all perfectly know that the astrology is a whole discipline, thus the classical astrological methods may provide us with a lot of interesting information for the research works in the field of a business astrology. Some of these methods can be modified to suit the needs of a business astrology in a more effective and useful way. One of such methods is the Saturn-Jupiter conjunction cycle.

There are many prognostic astrological methods based on the consideration of cycles. The cyclic processes themselves (cosmic, geological, social, group, individual, cellular ones and so on) make it possible to predict the development in the future if the past and present condition is known. Usually astrology pays special attention to the cycles of a particular planet. It is hard to overestimate the role of a solar and lunar eclipses even in the everyday life. The academic science has “surrendered” to the fact that its influence on many terrestrial processes is enormous, although the science keeps denying the significance of the other planets’ cycles because it can not find for it an adequate materialistic basis. It’s appropriate to mention in this context that till the start of the XIX century the mainstream “science” was negating (as being contradictable to the scientific point of view) the possibility of the falling down to Earth of the celestial stones (i.e. meteorites). The simplest cycles of the planets – sidereal periods (i.e. periods in which the planet passes through the whole zodiacal circle)– play an important role in astrology, but in ancient times a lot of other planetary cycles were used. In the modern western astrology these more complicated cycles are hardly used but in Hindu astrology for example they have a wide range of applications, especially in predictionary techniques.

Ancient astrological books give us examples of some periods for each of the planets (for example, the periods of 8, 45, 82 years for Venus, 12, 45, 79 for Jupiter are mentioned and sometimes we can find some other numbers as well) and not all of them are compatible with this or that cycle of the real motion of the planets seen from the point of view of the modern astrologer or astronomer. Some of these periods are in fact connected not with the separate planet but rather to the pair of planets in their mutual motion, for example with the periods of successive conjunctions of this pair of planets. Some other periods that can be found in an ancient books were derived from the theory of a planetary motion popular in ancient times. We are talking here about the theory of epicycles which was used in antiquity to describe the planetary motion through the Zodiac without Kepler’s laws which had not been known yet. The complicated theory of the epicycles is in a certain degree similar (although with a certain specific traits and peculiarities) to the mathematical expansion of a periodical function to a Fourier series (which now is used for analysis of different periodical processes – signals in radio engineering, sounds in acoustic, parameters of natural events in geography and so on). The complicated motion of a planet on the theory of epicycles was decomposed into the proportional motion along circumferences, where the centers of the circumferences moved along other circumferences. Periods of these separate round motions were well known to the prominent ancient astrologers because many of them were perfectly educated in astronomical theories of their times; many of them used it effectively in their predictions.

This article would be in a major part based on the cycle of the pair of planets Saturn and Jupiter and we’ll be interested not only in the classical aspect of the transit motion of these two planets but in a more rapid motion of these two planets correlated with the specific progressions (which can be used efficiently in a business astrology). Modern astrology (especially the mundane one) pays a lot of attention to transit cycle of this pair of planets because the state, financial and economical crisis are related to such a cycle. But its level of interpretation is still far away from the degree of detailed elaboration achieved by a natal astrology in the interpretation of the simplest cycles (natal astrology deals with one person and not with the large groups of people as mundane astrology does). The actual practice is to consider only separate stages of the process (few-years-long) and for the whole cycle only the most general interpretation is possible without any concrete indications given to the real events. But in ancient times the sequence of conjunctions of Jupiter-Saturn had been researched in the period of hundreds of years and the major world historical events were correlated with them. The works dedicated to the detailed description of these cycles did not survived till our times. All the astrologers, both ancient and modern, mention that the theory of the cycle Jupiter-Saturn was first worked out by Zoroastrian astrologers in Iran (this cycle is often called the Zoroastrian cycle) and the unknown to the modern reader works of these astrologers of the times of Sasanids, the Iranian royal dynasty of the 3d-7d centuries AD are mentioned as a primary source. Arabic astrologer Al-Kindi (9c) was particularly interested in this theory and then later it was his pupil Abu Mashar, some of whose books has survived till nowadays. The book of an astrologer of 8th century Masha’allah (known in Europe as Messahala) has survived; it is dedicated to the connection of the cycles of Jupiter-Saturn to the concrete historical events (see the details later).

Among seven visible planets we can easily distinguish three pairs : Sun-Moon (related basically to the most fundamental or natural events), Venus-Mars (related to the interpersonal relationship and to small business) and Jupiter-Saturn (associated with social processes, politics and, partially, to a large businesses) . The planets Sun, Mars and Jupiter belong to the Yang, masculine, solar series and Moon, Venus and Saturn – to the Ying, feminine, lunar one. Obviously, it is possible to distinguish also another pairs of planets, for example, those containing Mercury (it is known, for example, that Mercury and Venus cycles in relation to the Sun are closely connected to the stock market activity, to the stock trading). All three of the above mentioned pairs are analogical to each other in many aspects, and it makes it possible to use the well developed methods of interpretation of the Solar-Lunar cycle while researching the cycles of other pairs of planets. In general astrological cycle of Jupiter-Saturn may be seen as as the cycle of the balance of expansion-compression applied to the social level because both Jupiter and Saturn are the social planets in comparison to the fundamental Sun-Moon or individual Venus and Mars. Thus the cycle of the pair Jupiter-Saturn and its phases closely related to a wavelike flow of a historical and social processes of a different scale (state, firm, business project, enterprise, etc.); the cycles describe both divergent, extensive phases (Jupiter) and convergent, intensive ones (Saturn). The article would not deal with the interpretation of the separate phases of the pair Jupiter-Saturn because there is enough literature dedicated to this issue. It is worth mentioning however that that the basic ideas used in the interpretation of the phases of the Sun-Moon pair (see for example the well known book of D.Rudhyar “The lunar cycle”) can be applied here successfully (with correspondent modifications) to the phases of the Jupiter-Saturn cycle. In this article we’ll discuss the “global” theory of the points of the conjunction of these planets (in ancient times such a conjunction was called a “royal aspect”). In a classical astrology the symbolic correspondence to this point are the New Moon points – the conjunctions of the Sun and the Moon, thus the role of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions is similar in many aspects to the one that the New Moon points have: it is the starting point of the cycle, in this case – the 20-years cycle of the social development, the cycle of the world history. In a business astrology it is difficult to use such a long cycles, it is obvious. There are, however (and you’d have a chance to know it a little bit later) the symbolical cycles of Jupiter-Saturn, which are shorter; its application in practice has been already confirmed.

An ancient “conjunction theory” (i.e. theory of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions) may be described in a following way. For a long time astrologers know that Jupiter and Saturn are in conjunction approximately once in 20 years. This observation is easily argued theoretically (although primarily it has been developed experientially, through many years of observations of the sky). In astrological literature this theory used to be presented descriptively without any detailed argumentations. In such a description many interesting details could have been lost which emerge only if the real motion of the planets is taken into consideration. Below you’d find the approximate but nevertheless strict description of the theory of Jupiter-Saturn cycles.

The Jupiter period (i.e. sidereal period, the time of its full revolution around the Sun) equals in average (but not exactly, because in fact motions of planets are not strictly periodical because of the mutual influence of the planets on each other) 11, 86223 years, i.e. approximately 12 years. We have to note that observed from the Earth the full-circle motion of Jupiter around the Zodiac would equal in time to the sidereal period only approximately because we have to consider the position of the Earth in relation to the Sun. Within the year Jupiter shifts roughly in 360:12 = 30º (i.e. one Zodiacal sign). As for the Saturn, its sidereal period is 29, 45772 years, i.e. approximately 30 years and thus it shifts in 12 º a year. Usually Jupiter moves faster than Saturn (seen from the Earth, although from the point of view of the observer on the Sun Jupiter always moves faster than Saturn) and that is why in one year the distance from Jupiter to Saturn grows approximately by

30 – 12 = 18º degrees. If at any moment positions of Jupiter and Saturn on a Zodiac were the same (i.e. it was a conjunction of the two planets) then, growing every year by 18º , the distance among them would reach the number of 360º in approximately 360:18 = 20 years. That shows us that the next conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn would take place in approximately 20 years after the original one. In fact the motions of the planets on ecliptic are not uniform and thus the real interval of time between one conjunction and another is only roughly constant and consists of 20 years, declining from this number to one side or another in a few months. Having discovered this 20-years cycle the ancient astrologers did not stop their researches. They wanted to know in what particular parts of the Zodiac the conjunction was going to take place and what were the rules that connected these parts together. Here is what they had found.

First of all, each new point of conjunction is situated at a distance of approximately 120º from the previous one (or 4 signs of a Zodiac) with an orientation in the direction contrary to the natural order of the signs of a Zodiac. For example, if we have a conjunction in the sign of Pisces, the following one would take place, most likely, in the sign of Scorpio. The exceptions from this rule are related to the fact that 12 and 30 years are only approximate values of the periods of Jupiter and Saturn, their accurate motion is more complicated (the description of this motion later). This is easy to prove. In twenty years Jupiter, passing one sign a year, will pass through 20 signs in average, it will move forward 20-12 = 8 signs, or 4 signs back. Saturn, of course, behaves similarly: in 20 years it would move forward 12 x 20 = 240º, i.e. the same 8 signs forward. Being shifted back by 4 signs, the point of conjunction moves to the sign of a Zodiac of the same element. If the Jupiter and Saturn periods were precisely 12 and 30 years respectively, the point of conjunction after visiting each of the signs of a particular element would in a three 20-year spells be back to the same sign and exactly in the same degree of the sign where the motion was started and the following path of it would be exactly the one that it already had been passed through in a previous 60 years. By the way, the 60-years cycle discovered by such means seems to be the base of the origins of the oriental calendar. In ancient times they thought that 60 years is the necessary time span for any new idea to be accepted and expanded on a state or social level. Having known that the true periods of Jupiter and Saturn are not exactly 12 and 30 years respectively, we can understand that the point of conjunction does not move in such a flat way as the theoretical one does. Eventually, the mean interval between two conjunctions equals 19,85931 (= 1/ (1/11, 86223 – 1/29,45772))years and the point of conjunction moves 4 signs backward and forward approximately 2,699 degrees (because 19,859 x 360/11,862 = 602,699 = 2 x 360 – 4 x 30 + 2,699). Passing through the signs of a particular element, each of them once (it takes in average 59,578 years) the point of conjunction would move forward approximately 2,699 x 3 = 8,096 degrees. However if we are dealing with a large time spells it is necessary to take into account the influence of the precession of the Earth’s axis because of which the vernal equinox point (0º Aries)shifts by approximately 50,3 seconds of arc in a year (nowadays) in the direction, contrary to the natural series of the Zodiacal signs. It means that in 60 years the zero point of Aries would shift its position by approximately 50,3 minutes of an arc or by 0,838 degree. It is true only for a modern time, the speed of precession in ancient times was known only roughly and nowadays we’re not able to define accurately – neither in theory nor in practice – what it was like in the past. Thus the eventual shift of the point of conjunction after one tour around the signs of the same element equals now 8,096 + 0,838 = 8,934 degrees. The full tour around the signs of the same element the point of conjunction makes only 4 times and then in makes a transition to the signs of a different element. This transition takes place once in a roughly 60 x 4 = 240 years (this period was used by ancient astrologers, eventually it is less). This transition was called the “shift” (or “transfer” in versions of ancient Arabic texts; the term “Grand Mutation” sometimes is also used) and great significance was attributed to such a shift in astrological approach to the political and religious history studies. The related conjunction was called the middle one, and regular conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn were called the small ones. Moving through the new element in approximately 180 years, the point of conjunction shifted to the following one and so on. According to the ancient knowledge in a period of approximately 960 = 240 x 4 years the point of conjunction concluded its motion through the full cycles of all the 4 elements (with the same order of the elements as in Zodiacal circle: fire, earth, air, water and then again fire and so on) and the new circle of conjunctions was started. The correspondent “original” conjunction of the 960-year cycle was called the Grand or the Great one. In fact (if we consider the modern theory of planetary motions) with a shift of approximately 8,934 degrees every 59,578 years after the 40 conjunctions happens the return to the original point of a Zodiac (with a small shift backwards), the fact that gives us the period of Grand Conjunctions of 40 x 19,859 = 794, 36 years and not the 960 as it was in the above mentioned rough theory. It was considered that the original, primal point of the cycles of Jupiter and Saturn was 0º of Aries (as the ancients thought that in the beginning of every Yuga all the planets gathered in this point); some other sources, however speak about Capricorn as the primal point of Jupiter-Saturn conjunction. It is clear that such a large cycles are very good for an analysis of a historical process, and it was done even by an ancient astrologers. The shortcomings of the development of calculating astronomy did not allow them to do it with a sufficient accuracy. The methods of calculation of positions of Jupiter and Saturn known till the recent times were sufficiently accurate only for the periods of a few hundreds of years. As it turned out, for the longer time spells all the methods that had been used in ancient times gave divergence with the true positions of Jupiter and Saturn up to the several degrees. It is worth mentioning that the described above theory of the cycles of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions is not an exact one, in fact the behavior of the point of conjunction is even more complicated. By the way even some modern astrological computer software sometimes in the process of calculations of the multiple cycles of Jupiter and Saturn give expressive faults in dates of exact conjunctions and other phases. For our time the last Grand mutation took place in 9º of Capricorn 26 of January 1842 at 6:19 GMT (all conjunctions after A.D. till 2100 see in table below, in my calculations I use the astrological software “Almagest” of the Russian firm “Ricona”, highly accurate in calculations). Let’s note that the positions of all the planets of the chart of this mutation are the important sensitive points of the world events (including economics and business spheres). One of the major features of this chart – conjunction of the Moon with a South Lunar node (tail of a Dragon). “Terms of validity” of such a points – 200 years (till the next Grand Mutation 26.10.2040; it differs radically from the mean period of 240 years). The small conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn has taken place recently -- 28 of May 2000 in 23º Taurus).

It is interesting to note that the chart of Grand Mutation of 1842 has been experientially reconstructed by Moscow astrologer M.Preobrazhensky. Since 1996 he was investigating the international currency market FOREX and has processed the vast volume of data looking for the valid astrological factors for this market. He succeeded in discovering of a few sensitive zones in the Zodiac, the transits to which give a strong impact to the FOREX market. It happened to be that these zones exactly correspond to the positions of planets in a chart of Grand Mutation of 1842. It is nothing but a surprising confirmation of the fundamental bases of astrology by purely experiential means!

Now we would discuss the methods of interpretation of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions which were used in antiquity. These methods are useful not only in the study of global processes, but in dealing with operative business tasks (by the use of the fsat progressions which we would comment later).

As analogy to the solar-lunar 29,5 days cycle here it would be natural to fix the time of the exact conjunction (“New Jupiter” or “New Jove” likely to the New Moon) and to read a chart built for this moment of time. But in ancient times the moment of exact conjunction was usually determined only roughly. The astrologers of that time seemed to realize the existence of such a problem that is why they usually neither built nor interpreted the charts of exact conjunctions. They used two methods instead. The first one was based on the fact that the sign of conjunction was determined (this task did not require exact calculations); then, depending on the element of that sign the conjunction itself had been determined. For example, if any other factors of the chart were indicating the large, global catastrophe, the character of the event itself was defined in accordance with the element: for the fire signs it would be fire, for the earth ones – earthquakes, for the air ones – hurricanes and for the water ones – floods. The conjunctions where the “shift” was taken place – the change of the element – were considered as the major and the most important ones, such a conjunctions were considered as a reason of a great political and social changes and overturns. The Great conjunctions marked the coming of Prophets. A large number of such shifts had been analyzed in a book “About the conjunctions, religions and people” by the astrologer Masha’allah. This book has not been remained in the original form but we can find its’ detailed retelling in a book of a Bagdadi astrologer of the IX century Ibn Hibinta (the text in English with comments was published in the book of E.S.Kennedy and P.Pingree “The astrological history of Masha’allah”). There, for example there is an analysis of the conjunctions correlated with Christ and Mohammed and also the conjunctions related to a large number of the events of the Islamic history. The method of calculations of the dates of conjunctions used by Mash’allah was based on Zoroastrian sources. The conjunction related to the Flood is also analyzed there (Mash’allh gives the date – 12 February 3360 BC), although the accuracy of calculations of the planetary positions by the astrologers of 8-9 centuries were undoubtedly insufficient for building a relevant chart for such a distant year. Even for the conjunctions of the Jupiter-Saturn of their age the data were not accurate, as we can see today (with a fault up to the several degrees); that is why the dates of conjunctions, given in this book, differ from those that were calculated by the modern techniques, up to the few months. It was thought in ancient times that if the conjunction takes place in water or fire signs, the major influence is the Jupiterian one (it is easily understandable: Jupiter rules the Sagittarius, the fire sign and is in exaltation in Pisces, the water sign) and Saturn has the privilege if the conjunction takes place in earth or air signs (because it rules Capricorn – the earth sign and Aquarius – the air sign).

The second method of ancients was based on the following: instead of the chart of the exact conjunction the chart of the astrological year of the conjunction was interpreted. In other words, the chart of the ingression of the Sun to the zero point of Aries, which was the last one before the date of conjunction (nowadays this ingression takes place approximately in March, 20, but in ancient times because of the precession of the Earth’s axis the calendar dates of this ingression were different). It was supposed that the year in which the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter (even the small one) takes place is influencing the future greatly, and the astrologers tried to see the details of such an influence in an ingression chart. The interpretation of such a chart was made in accordance with all the rules of a mundane astrology of that time (many of which remained till nowadays and many are lost, i.e. forgotten or out of use now). One of the first steps in the interpretation of such a chart was the definition of a ruler of the chart – i.e. the most significant planet in a chart. In this process the connection of the planet with the Ascendent was taken into account (the major privileges were attributed to the planet ruling the Ascendent) and also the presence of aspects to other powerful planets (especially the benevolent ones) and different aphetic dignities. The special significance in interpretation was attributed to the presence of retrograde planets, which were seen as malevolent factors, signing the possibility of catastrophes (more intensive and global ones if more retrograde planets are present in a chart). The local spaces connected powerfully to the events indicated by such a conjunction were as well indicated. The fact is that to each conjunction was attributed its own “radius of effectiveness” and its manifestation can be found only in a particular regions of the Earth. The theory of the climates, created in an ancient world, was taken as the base of such a geographical correlation. The Earth surface, known to astrologers of that time, was divided into a few (usually – seven) parts, known as climates. This theory is known today thanks to the detailed description made by Biruni.

The modern methods of interpretation of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions may be based on the usage of an old methods as well as on the introduction of a new ones, based on more accurate calculations. Thus, for example, the usage of astrological programs affords to determine the time of exact conjunction with an accuracy up to the few minutes (although sometimes the faults could be more prominent) and thus it is possible to build very exact Cosmogramm and to determine if not the degree of Ascendent, but surely its sign. From the mundane point of view the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions as closely connected to the historical and social processes, symbolically represented by waves of compression and expansion, it is possible to make an interpretation of a chart by standard astrological methods. Thus there is a possibility to make a prediction of a social or political development of the region (based on the Cosmogramm and the position of the Ascendent for the center of the region, state, etc. of interest). It is important to examine the planets in a major aspects to the point of conjunction and to the angles of the chart to determine the local factors. The degree of the conjunction itself is also loaded with an information. As an analogue to the point of a New Moon it represents the sensitive point to the whole subsequent 20-years period. The points of medium and Grand conjunctions keep its influence through the respective periods of time. The symbolic interpretation of the point of conjunction gives the symbolic image of the corresponding period of time (I specially like the system of Sabian symbolic degrees described in the books of M.E.Jones and D.Rudhyar). It is necessary to note that nowadays astrologers know more than 20 different systems of degrees interpretations, there is even a special group of astrologers in Toronto which gathers the news about such systems and researches the influence of the degrees.

Another approach to the study of Jupiter-Saturn cycles is based on the attentive research of the whole sequence of conjunctions in a time interval that interests you. For any rational time spell here you may use the relevant astrological software. I would like to mention however that this software should be tested well. In some software the accuracy declared by designers can be achieved only in a period of time of one or two hundreds years from 2000, and out of the limits of this period the planetary positions differ from the “exact” ones (although we are not sure that in fact our methods of calculations give us the real planetary positions for a very distant time). My calculations (see Table above) has shown that the theoretically described above specific features of the point of conjunction truly correspond to the reality. For example, with each return to the original sign the point of conjunction shifts forward approximately in 9 degrees and usually it dwells in every decade of the sign once (decade is the part of a Zodiac of 10 degrees-length). If we use the system of planetary rulerships of the decades such an observation affords us to work out in detail the description of the conjunction. Secondly, it is possible to discover that sometimes the regime of soft shift from one element to another breaks. The point of conjunction that has not concluded yet the cycle of circulation through the signs of one element jumps to the sign of another element and then later as if having remembered something comes back to the original element. In such a case the shift described by Zoroastrian astrologers acquires more tense and dramatic character, we can observe the emergence of the theme of a struggle, battle, jump forward and return back. It is clear that the influence of such a non-smooth, tense shift on the social processes would be deeper than an influence of a regular one.

One more approach to the interpretation of a conjunction is based on determination of the triple conjunctions. The fact is that every 20 years a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn takes place and in the moment of such a conjunction both planets are moving directly. But from time to time (and quite irregularly; as it can be seen from my calculations with an interval from 40 to 300 years) the three conjunctions instead of one happen in approximately one year and during the second one the both planets are retrograde. Such a triple conjunctions took place in XX century in 1940-41 and quite recently, in 1980-81 years. The degrees of these three conjunctions are usually situated in one sign and the higher is the number of the conjunctions the smaller are the numbers of these degrees. There is a very interesting method of interpretation of such a triple conjunctions (which can be examined as thesis, antithesis (or contradiction) and synthesis (or consideration of contradictions) in the development of a particular mundane theme, but it requires separate publication. Here I shall mention only that the important information about such a triple conjunction may be discovered in symbolical interpretation of each of these three conjunctions. The practice was to build a chart for the year of a last, third, conjunction, the two previous ones were considered as a preliminary. It is obvious that the triple conjunction also marks the importance and dramatic power of the started 20-years cycle.

There is a method for comparing of a strength of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions. We can calculate the distances in latitude between Jupiter and Saturn for any conjunction (which are calculated for longitude!). There is a lot of interesting details can be found in the series of these distances. It is naturally to suppose that the less is this distance then the influence of the corresponding conjunction is more significant. Some details of my investigations of this series of distances (and of connections with some historical processes) I am going to publish some later. Also it is interesting to investigate a distribution of the signs of latitudes for Jupiter and Saturn in conjunctions. There is a lot of information here.

Besides the well-known application of the Jupiter-Saturn cycles in mundane astrology it turns out that they could be used in a short-term business prognosis. For the large businesses (that which operate usually with a long cycles) Saturn is usually connected with supply and Jupiter – with demand. But it turned out that it is possible to use Saturn and Jupiter (as symbols of the same supply and demand, for example) even for the more short-lasting businesses. Such a method is possible to use for the short-term predictions of the stock-market as well.

In 1997 I had proposed the following method of the short-term prognosis of the stock-market and a business activity. Let us assume that Jupiter symbolizes growth, development, expansion, luck, bearing, optimism and progress and Saturn – limitations, stabilization, fixation on the achieved results, bulling, pessimism and even regression to a certain degree. It is clear that the regular cycle of the Saturn-Jupiter pair in a natural, transit motion of the planets is two long for operative prognosis. But it is possible to change the time-scale and to examine the progression in which one day equals one year. The speed of that kind of a progression is “opposite” to the classical secondary progression in which one year equals one day, and we shall call it the “fast” one and the positions of planets calculated with its help – the fast progressed ones. If we’d fix the initial moment of the action of some kind (for example, the date of signing the contract, the beginning of the shipment and so on), in the period of approximately 20 days after this moment the positions of Jupiter and Saturn calculated by means of the above mentioned method would conclude the full cycle of their relative motion returning back to the original distance among them. Studying the mutual positions of the two planets and also their positions in connection to the planets of the chart built for the moment of the beginning of the business it is possible not only to describe the cycle of compression-expansion type for this particular business, but to identify its particular critical moments in a period of time of 20 days. These moments could be set by aspects (the most effective are the conjunctions) of the fast progressed planets to each other, by ingressions of these planets into the signs and may be by parallels. In this process it is possible to use all these methods of analysis of this 20-days cycle which were described above as applicable to the classical 20-year cycle of conjunctions. For example, the four phases of the cycle are easily derived (phases corresponding to the conjunction, opposition and two squares); the analysis of the triple conjunctions is being made and so on.

In the process of interpretation of the 20-days cycle the fast-progress Mars would play the role of the indicator of minutes (the role played by Moon in the regular progressions) and conjunctions of Mars (as well as its aspects and parallels) with the radix planets would “switch on” the later ones.

The important moments are also correlated to the ingressions of the progressed Mars to the signs of a Zodiac (especially to Aries). The speed of the fast-progressed Mars is big enough for using it in determination of a particularly small periods of time. Thus the transit Mars passes through the Zodiac approximately in 687 days (or 1,88 years, it is its sidereal period); the fast-progressed Mars would pass through the Zodiac in 1,88 days or 45 hours. So in one hour this Mars would pass through roughly 8 degrees. It means that it is possible to pre-define with its help the periods of time of the major tension or the time-spells in which a special activity is demanded, with a 15 minutes accuracy. It is clear that in particular business situations this kind of information might be extremely useful: the classical method gave such kind of a possibility only in studying the transits of a cardinal points, but planets (and even in progressions) posses larger energetic potential that the abstract points (as the Ascendent) of a Zodiac. Below you‘ll find more detailed information about the principles of interpretation of the fast-progressed planets. It is interesting to note that in practice of business activity the experientially discovered cycle of 40 days has been known for a long time; now we can correlate this cycle to the double cycle of Jupiter and Saturn in their fast-progressed motion.

I think that the fast-progressed cycle of mutations can be used as well; to be more precise, the several mutational cycles containing each other, analogical to the described above classical transit mutations. Specifically using an analogy with the studying of a New Moon previous to the birth (in a natal astrology) there is a big sense in studying the conjunction of Jupiter-Saturn, previous to the starting point of a business and also the charts of a fast-progressed Grand Mutation, previous to the starting point of a business. The points of a Zodiac in which these conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn takes place in the correspondent charts are the sensitive points. It was difficult to use such methods before because a big amount of calculation is required but nowadays the good astrological software afford us to make the corresponding calculations without any difficulties.

The proposed method, originally worked out on the pure theoretical basis, has been then explored practically. In the book of a Moscow astrologer Y.Zalozhnev “The practical business astrology” published in 1999 and dedicated to the astrological supply for the real-estate activity there is a review of the results of a practical application of the fast motion of Jupiter and Saturn. The case is of a several dozens of buy-sell contracts of the apartments. The terms of validity of such a contract is usually not large (from one week to one month) and so the usage of a regular transits is not effective, because only fast moving planets are able to make aspects of any kind in such a brief period, but energetic potential of such kind an aspect is not big. Thus there is a reason to use the fast progression here. The aspects of the fast-moving planets on the day of a conclusion of an agreement have been studied in relation to the chart of a signing of the agreement (in a natal astrology the aspects of the fast-progressed planets to the radix one are studied in a similar way). It turned out that in ALL and EVERYONE case, without any exceptions (it’s not an ornament to the statistics but the result of the practical experience made by Zalozhnev independently) of dozens of real-estate buy-sell contracts. There were the major aspects of a fast-progressed Jupiter to the Jupiter or Mars in a chart of an agreement (the author emphasizes the role of Mars in business activity) and in 90 percents of the cases these aspects are the harmonious ones. Besides, in many cases there were at the same time the harmonious aspects between the fast-progressed Jupiter and Saturn.

Yuri Zalozhnev pointed out that the use of the fast progressions has its own specific. The realization of an agreement may take place in any time of a day and because of that in the study of the aspects of the fast-progressed planets it is necessary to study their positions during the whole “year” (this observation is valid also for the regular natal astrology for the progressed Moon).

It is necessary to note that one of the moments of the above mentioned theory was not used in the research of Y.Zalozhnev, i.e. the more accurate chronometry of the events made by the fast-progressed Mars. The others more subtle possibilities of the fast cycles of Jupiter and Saturn were not used for the analysis of situation and its prediction as well. It is understandable that the proposed method requires further and more detailed research with a wide circle of astrological tools. It is necessary to note that the fast progressions have its own individual characters because they are calculated in accordance with a particular original moment (that is different from any other cycle of the transit planets, global and starting and finishing at the same time for all the inhabitants of the Earth). Like in any progressive unfolding of the chart the fast progressions in fact work not in a physical plane (in which the real events that we observe are taking place), but in a more subtle, symbolic plane. It means that we are connected to them not through the external events and transformations but through the internal ones (which then find the specific expression in a physical plan as well) and also through the changes in our attitude towards external world and modes of reaction to it. In a business situation such a change gives , for example, the development of a corporative spirit of a company, general atmosphere (mood) in a firm, reconstruction of an inner structure of a company or of a particular arrangement. In a more local situation we can talk about changing the type of a reaction to the external events (that brings us to the choice of this or that particular behavior), change of a balance in tendencies of compression and expansion (in their concrete application to the particular activity) and so on. The role of a progressive chart in a business activity didn’t get its full recognition yet, but still the cases are already known when an application of such a chart would be extremely useful. For example, in a research of a currency exchange market the researchers had find out that the regularities (both astrological and more traditional for the currency predictions technical analysis) that has been discovered for a particular period of time unexpectedly stopped to work as if the reconstruction of a market has taken place. The well-designed models that previously had given satisfactory results during the long period of time suddenly became inadequate. The researchers were surprise by such a fact because none of the external events could be considered as s reason of such kind a changes. Astrologically such a phenomenon correlates with astrological events in a progressive charts (aspects, parallels, ingressions). I’m sure that such a “mysterious” reconstructions are well-known for the researches of other fields of activity as well.

Aspects of the fast-progressed planets to the natal ones point to that form in which the reconstruction of an inner structure of a company or vent manifests on the external level. For example, if the process of realization of an agreement of real estate buy-sell is considered we can talk in this context of a change in an inner orientation of a client and of a cancellation of an agreement as a result of such a change or we can talk about reconstructions of a strategy of the firm in the process of which the firm loses interest in fulfillment of a signed agreement. The link between the events of a symbolic and physical plane takes place through the above mentioned aspects and the specific traits of the involved planets and their positions in the chart (built for the starting moment of a business) allows us to elicit the specific forms of its manifestation. For example, in the above mentioned research of the activity of a real-estate firm the aspect of a fast-progressed Jupiter to the radix Mars indicates the necessary efforts for the fulfillment of an agreement and an aspect to radix Jupiter indicates the fact that the fulfillment of the agreement is due not to the concrete efforts but to the general positive tendencies in the development of a firm.

We can offer another variants of a mundane cycles for the further development of the above mentioned method of an astrological analysis of a business activity. For example, the cycle of a pair of planets Uranus-Pluto lasts approximately 127.3 years. In a mundane astrology it is related to the periods of radical reformation of a society. Its’ fast analogue lasts 127 days (a little bit more than 4 months) and is useful in analysis of the transformational processes in business (the general reconstruction of the work of a company, reforms within the company, liquidation or bankruptcy and so on). Further, the cycle of the pair of planets Neptune-Pluto in a mundane astrology is related to the development of the deepest processes because this cycle (which lasts approximately 492,3 years) is the slowest one of all the cycles of the planets known by now. Its fast analogue lasts 1 year 127 days (let’s note that the number of days is the same that for the cycle of Uranus and Pluto!) and it is useful in the deepest researches of the business activity when it is necessary to elicit the true roots of the actual events. The same approach is possible for another fast analogues to the classical mundane cycles.

In an analysis of the business activity it is reasonable to study even the more simple cycles – not of the pairs of planets, but separate fast-progressed planets (eventually it was used by Y.Zalozhnev). For example, in a business astrology the fast progressions of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto are extremely informative and Neptune also gives a specific information (for example, of the influence of the inflation processes). Such kind of a method does not demand comments so we would not discuss it here in details. We’d only note that it is necessary to differentiate interpretation of the transits and progressions as related to the different levels of the development of a situation.

In this article we discussed only one progression – 1 year equals 1 day. But it is possible to study another progressions correlative to the general astrological methodology. In this process it is necessary to choose two more or less natural units of measurement of time and by the symbolic –equation of one to another we shall have some kind of a progression. Due to the fact that our world is whole the methods of the unfolding of a chart correlated to the symbolical cycles containing each other have a lot of information about an object described by a chart. For example, it is possible to make an equation 1 month = 1year (it is the fast analogue to the tertiary progression) and in such a case the cycle of 20 months would correspond to the Jupiter-Saturn cycle (it is comparable in terms to the fast-progressed cycles of the pairs of higher planets). It is possible to use such a cycle for an analysis of a long-lasting projects. Further, it is possible to identify symbolically 1 day and 1 month. It is average-moving progression and in this case the cycle of approximately 240 days and 8 months corresponds to the Jupiter-Saturn cycle. It is useful to remember the difference of interpretation of a different progressions for the same planets or pair of planets.

The specific of interpretation of each progression is deduced by analysis of the periods of time which are identified in the process of calculating the progression. For example, the identification of 1 day to 1 month is based on the link of the two motions – the revolution of the Earth around its’ axis and of the Moon around the Earth. That’s why its symbolic cycle is close to the real, earthy life. It is clear that its position on astral plan is closer to the physical plan than that of the fast progression – where the motions of the Earth around its axis and around the Sun are linked.

In this article we observed only a few possible applications of a classical methods of the mundane astrology to the researches in the business activity and analysis of the operative processes in business. Picking out of the vast variety of such methods those that are the most effective ones can be seen as an actual and interesting task for business astrologers.
