On March 10th it is 5 years since the idea of establishing ISBA emerged.
I (Karen Boesen) had for some years felt that I lacked inspiration in my work as one of Denmarks
few business astrologers - and there were no other options but to start looking abroad, Denmark
being such a small country. For this purpose, the Internet is excellent, and by the end of 1997
I was in contact with many interesting business astrologers and financial astrologers from many
countries worldwide.
In the beginning of 1998 we founded the first board of ISBA and started working for the society.
It has been tough work, but the love I expect we all have for astrology makes it worthwhile. Today,
ISBA numbers app. 150 members, we host a conference every year, and we constantly seek to develop
the professional offerings for our members. This work is far from completed - it will go on for
many years - and we gratefully accept any help and assistance in carrying on the work for the
society.
Many thanks to all members who have assisted during these first 5 years..
2) Election for the European seats of the ISBA Board
There is still time to offer your candidate for the two European seats of the ISBA Board. Deadline
for entering the election is March 15th.
3) New chairman of ISBA research committee
Letter from Maarit Laurento
I am continuing Manfred Zimmel´s work. And first of all, I would like to thank Manfred for
what he has done for ISBA in this section. He gave me a good basis to start from.
About Maarit Laurento
I have just begun my sixth year as a professional astrologer. I have studied astrology in the
80´s and founded our company 1997after I made my doctoral dissertation in Education. I worked
as a researcher for seven years but found that astrology was still an issue that was impossible
to take into that context. Still, this is the area I am very interested in. In Finland, I also
work as a chairman of Professional Astrologers Association. I have a Finnish Diploma in astrology
and I have also studied in the Faculty of Astrological Studies and received a Certificate. I write
columns in several Finnish magazines and internet portals (e.g. pedastrology, trend analyses,
and management). Further, we have produced mobile sevices and designed a chart calculation program
for our own purposes. On ISBA pages you´ll find my article A Dialogue Between Astrology
and Science which explores the borders and similarities between these two areas.
Aims for the next years
1. Gathering information about astrology and science/research especially for ISBA purposes. I
would very much appreciate you mailing me any information on this subject from your own country.
2. Making excursions to the universities where astrology is taught. My first excursion will be
on April to the University of Zaragoza, Spain. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please do
not hesitate to contact me. 3. Explore possibilities to make astrological research results more
known in various contexts.

4) Members Corner
The month of February saw us welcome six new members: Frank Horan -supporting - Canada; Erik Pedersen
- associate - Denmark; James Randi - supporting - USA; Debra Schneck - associate - USA; Belinda
Tomlinson - associate - USA and Ellen Zucker - associate - USA. Each of these new members brings
to ISBA a special flavor and enthusiasm for astrology and astrologers sharing mutual interests.
With spring less than two and a half weeks away now, our thoughts are turning to the Vernal Equinox,
and the Rites of Spring. North of the equator we're shaking off the chill of winter and looking
forward to the process of renewal, while our members south of the equator are approaching the
end of their spring and summer, reversing the process. There is a certain order in this that gives
an appreciation of the diversity of our ISBA family.
A big thank you to all of you who responded so promptly to the dues notices that came showering
down (bad pun) on them from yours truly last month! It is greatly appreciated! to you all a happy,
hopeful Equinox!

We have received materials from several members around the world regarding their experiences with
skeptics. For obvious reasons, these materials are not on the website. We would still like ro
receive information about the subject.

We would also like to mention that we are continuously, now for the third time within 1-2 months,
a major spacefiller in James Randis weekly newsletter. As you can see in Barbaras Members Corner,
we have chosen to make James Randi an honorary member of ISBA in acknowledgement of his vast efforts
to make astrology known.
It was therefore a disappointment to read his latest newsletter, where James completely forgot
to mention our URL, which has otherwise been a fixpoint in his articles. Perhaps he just forgot.
He is on our list of supporting members, complete with a cute little picture.7) ISBA website:

In the last newletter we brought your attention to our newest addition to the web site: Hannah
Lund will shortly design new pages for the web site, where members can announce newsletters and
training offers for business astrology and financial astrology. There are still members who haven't
mailed us information - please do so as soon as possible to be on the pages.
