ISBA Newsletter August
2003
Dear ISBA Member
Here are the subjects of August:
1) Members Corner
2) AA - England
3) ISBA - Congress, earnings for members
4) Book Reviews - Kaye Shinker
5) Grace Morris Workshop: Pick the Winning Stocks for 2004
1) MEMBERS CORNER
Welcome to new supporting member Stephanie Jean Morris of the UK! Last year at this time, she'd
have been local for me, but now I am here in Sun City, California. Stephanie is far away geographically.
What's wonderful about ISBA is that all of us are as near as our computers & the internet!
A warm welcome to Stephanie! I imagine all of us have been getting inquiries about the nearness
of the red planet Mars to Earth at the end of August. What does it mean? Seeing how this event
hasn't occurred in 5000 years, we do not have past history to refer back to on this one. The fact
Mars is in Pisces suggests some wild weather, and possibly this will translate into the world
of business with the same vigor? Frankly, I'm unwilling to do more than view how Mars aspects
charts of individuals, countries and businesses. Any ideas from our membership? Hope all of you
have a wonderful August! In Oneness, Barbara May
2) AA - ENGLAND
We have received the following from our colleagues in England. Although it doesn't precisely deal
with business astrology or financial astrology, we find that it has such importance that we have
chosen to publish it in the newsletter.
Dear Ms Hemstreet
Below this message you will find a press release from the Independent Television Commission (ITC),
the UK's independent television regulator. Part of this concerns the presentation of astrology
on British television.
You will notice that in the old code 'Horoscopes' are
(a) linked to 'similar 'psychic' practices' and
(b) deemed 'only acceptable where they are presented as entertainment or are the subject of legitimate
investigation'.
The new code proposes keeping this restriction but is asking for responses to the address given
at the top of the press release. This gives us a vital chance to change the wording of the code.
Given that Horoscopes are singled out the code would seem to be highly discriminatory. In addition,
horoscopes are defined as a 'psychic practice, but, as this is an extremely debatable definition,
it would seem that the original stricture in the code was drawn up without any particular argument
or evidence. The association of horoscopes with practices such as exorcism is also very strange
and cannot be sustained.
It is also not clear whether 'Horoscope' is used as a synonym for astrology, although the experience
of those who have worked in the media suggests that it is. The consequence is that intelligent
discussion (including, ironically, critical discussion) of astrology, is prevented.
We now have a valuable opportunity to amend the code.
The AA will draft a formal response, but we would like to encourage as many members as possible
to send in an objection. This could be one line. It could be several pages. We just want the ITC
to be aware that they cannot justify an unfair restriction on freedom of speech.
We would also like to encourage you to pass this round at your local group or post it on other
e mail lists in order make for as large a volume of responses as possible.
Also, could all responses be copied to the AA Office so that we can keep a record.

3) ISBA - CONGRESS, EARNINGS FOR MEMBERS
We want as many of our members to participate in the congress in London, November 7-8. Therefore
we have decided, for the first time, to offer GBP 40 to any member who succeeds in interesting
a colleague, client etc in participating in our congress. Naturally, the amount can not be used
directly as a discount on your own participation fee.
4) BOOK REVIEWS - KAYE SHINKER
We have received this book review from Kaye Shinker. Thank you so much, Kaye!
Solar Maximums
Two books you have in your library I´m sure. Michelson´s Planetary Phenomena and Meridians
Planetary Economic Forecasting. These books are the source for the material presented below. How
many of you have noticed that there might be some relationship of Solar flares to market activity?
OK how does that apply to industry and markets. Solar Maximums usually occur in three year clusters
and the date given for a maximum is the year that had the most spots within the cluster. You will
notice Solar maximums occur at the end of Events where there were great expansions or booms. The
date given for a solar maximum is the year when the count was highest. Listed are the years of
Solar Maximums (missing years means that Maximums were not recorded) next are the names and dates
given to periods of great expansions.
1804 Maritime Commerce Prosperity 1804-7
Restricted Carrying Trade Prosperity 1809-1811
1816 Post War Prosperity 1814-6
Era of Good Feeling 1821-1825
1837 Bank Credit Land Boom
1848 Mexican War Boom 1846-48
California Gold Inflation Prosperity
Civil War Boom 1863-65
1870 Industrial Over-Expansion Prosperity
1883 Gold Resumption Prosperity 1879-1883
1893 Railroad Prosperity 1886-1893
Recovery of 1995
Merger Prosperity 1899-1903
1905 Corporate Prosperity 1905-1907
1917 WW 1 Boom 1815-1918
1928 New Era Prosperity 1925-1929
WorldWar 2 1941-1945
Korean War Boom1950-1953
1968 Vietnam War Boom 1963-1969
1989 Reagan Era Boom 1984-1988
2000 Technology Boom 1992-2000
Thus we think out of the box sell when there is a year of solar maximums and buy when there are
years of solar minimums. The statistics for solar activity and all sorts of interesting information
about the Sun can be found by following the links at the website spaceweather.com And for all
of you who blame the Jupiter Saturn conjunction for high Sun spot activity, it is only half true.
Jupiter is to blame, 95% Of solar maximums had Jupiter in the same sign as Saturn or Uranus or
Neptune. In 1989 Saturn Neptune and Uranus were together and get the credit for giving the Sun
a case spots which I like to visualize as a case of Chicken pox.
