ISBA 2005 Conference
By Bill Meridian
The 2005 conference of the International Society of Business Astrologers took place on 26-28 in
Amsterdam. I have been a member of the group since inception, and I must say that it has grown
and developed under the direction of president Karen Boesen.
The conference was held is a fine venue, the Hotel Pulitzer, located on one of the city’s
lovely canals. It was the single best conference held by the ISBA and one of the best conferences
that I have attended in years. There are three reasons for this point of view. First, all the
participants brought fresh material directly from their active practices. Second, each presentation
was significantly different due to the unique viewpoints of the lecturers and the focus of their
practices. Third, there was a pre-conference evening lecture on the use of business astrology
and financial astrology targeted at business professionals. Some brave souls from the business
world who utilize astrology in their work were there, including a representative from KLM. It
was great to hear how the airline employs Faye Cossar’s work into their corporate planning.
Three astrologers explained how they serve their clients in business. The conference began on
the next day.
Faye Cossar spoke about the life cycle of a company. This is a new organisational development
model based upon the well known concept that people have life cycles. We all go through certain
stages of childhood, survive adolescence, and in adulthood go through various phases such as mid-life
crisis. What is less well known is that companies also go through the same symbolic phases. Faye
described these phases by discussing case studies. The simplicity of the concept makes it very
understandable to non-astrologers.
Peter Delahay’s presentations were unique. He asked and answered the question: does passion
have a place in business? His lecture on the metaphysics of business and the effect of the leader
were quite unique and great food for thought.
Robert Gover explained Saturn's role in past great depressions, including the overall economic
context, and how it has changed with certain planetary cycles. He also presented Uranus-Pluto
squares and their part in historic economic changes. Much of the work is from his new book, Time
and Money: the Economy and the Planets.
Barbara Hamilton’s perspective as both an astrologer and a coaching leader cast a multi-faceted
light on the use of astrology in the corporate world. She explained how planetary configurations
represent emotional complexes that lead to certain behaviour patterns. These patterns cause decision
makers to respond to work and career decisions in certain ways that are measurable by the planets.
She drew upon actual cases to show how leaders can navigate business with vision.
Robert Doolaard explained his use of the cyclic index to predict cycles in culture, politics and
economics. I first met Robert 12 years ago when I read his work on Waves of War. This cyclic approach
describes our war cycles. He has since extended his research into the cultural, political and
economic fields. He demonstrated how we can learn from the past, understand the present, and manage
the future.
Madeline Gerwick-Brodeur explained where our economy is heading using the McWhirter Nodal cycle
and the Jupiter-Saturn cycle. She also explored the potential of Uranus in Pisces and Pluto in
Capricorn. She then presented the astrology of sales and marketing. The horoscope of a company
leader, not the company chart, is the best tool for looking at where an organisation is heading.
The issues affecting top management on a personal level have a major influence on the company.
It was interesting to see that a company changed its marketing strategy when Uranus moved over
the corporate Neptune.
Harald Seeberger’s unique presentation pointed out how the minor asteroids can play a major
part in identifying exceptional stocks. He evaluated risks in a horoscope using Nessus and the
Saturn-Pluto signature. The strong presence of asteroids such as Utopia and Fantasia in the first-trade
charts of high-flying stocks that crashed was particularly striking.
Han van Straaten demonstrated the use of horary business astrology. Horary enables the business
astrologer to give quite specific answers to stand - alone specific questions asked by the business
client. The lecture explained how to use old proven astrological techniques in today’s business
astrology setting.
I spoke measuring the reaction of investors to earnings releases by looking at the closest aspects
to the Midheaven in first trade charts. The second lecture delved into the combination of the
solar cycle and the heliocentric Mercury cycle in forecasting gold prices.
We are looking forward to the next conference in Copenhagen in 2007.
3) Congress on Tape
All lectures at the congress were taped and are available to ISBA members. Each tape will be USD
12. A list of lecture titles will be published in the September newsletter.
4) Financial Astrology in the Media
Current Barron's Features Financial Astrologer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
An analysis from a noted financial astrologer is featured in the current
issue of Barron’s magazine, the respected business and financial weekly
from Dow Jones.
Tim Bost, the editor of FinancialCyclesWeekly.com newsletter, is quoted in
the “Market Watch” column in the July 4 issue of Barron’s. In a commentary
on the current real estate bubble, Bost suggests that the news of record
home sales should be taken with a grain of salt, since the median price
for homes has fallen sharply as the aggregate sales numbers have
skyrocketed.
During the past five years, Barron’s has often turned to Tim Bost as an
expert commentator on economic and market trends. In 2000 it published his
forecast which correctly named the exact date on which the massive
sell-off in U.S. stocks would begin. In 2004 Barron’s featured Bost’s
comments on three different occasions, citing him on topics as diverse as
the impact of rising oil prices and the implications of the 2004
presidential election campaign.
FinancialCyclesWeekly.com, a widely-acclaimed publication in financial
astrology, regularly features Tim Bost’s comments on business,
geopolitical, and economic trends. The weekly newsletter also includes
reports on international markets and domestic industry sectors, a Model
Portfolio of trades in U.S. equities, and a comprehensive Gann Plan market
timing calendar for astro-traders.
Bost is the author of “Beyond Symbolism in Financial Astrology” and the
“Basic Stock Market Astrology Home Study Course.” He frequently lectures
on astrological and stock market topics and provides private consultations
for traders, entrepreneurs, and investors around the world.
FinancialCyclesWeekly.com is published via email each week by Taylor-Bost
Consulting of Sarasota, Florida. For more information on the newsletter
